We are offering an long term volunteer traineeship for someone looking to learn the whole business of market gardening. As a small no-dig market garden running our own veg box scheme, honesty shop as well as supplying restaurants and shops we are passionate about nurturing people and place.
You will learn all aspects of growing and business from sowing, plant care, soil care, irrigation, covered cropping, harvesting and selling. You will work alongside Amelia Lake our head grower and follow a seasonal curriculum. The position begins in mid-April and runs to October with the possibility of extending.
At the Real Food Garden we practice no-dig growing on a 1 acre market garden in a 4 acre site with orchards, poultry and woodland. We are focused on soil care, biodiversity, produce quality and direct sales for the overall sustainability of our business. Work will be varied and cover the whole range of skills required of a market gardener and accompanied with discussion and focused learning sessions.
This position comes with a modest stipend and a comfortable caravan, organic wholefoods, fresh veg and eggs from the garden and a commitment from us to share as much of our knowledge and experience as possible. It will suit an individual or couple with some experience who are looking to delve into the world of commercial horticulture.
